Brief History

Janet Sharpe Smith born 3 October 1846, in Greenock. Married, 13 August 1872, as his 2nd wife, her sister Isbellas's widower, James Barclay, he (died 15 July 1889 in Greenock) son of James Barclay and Marion Gibson of Inverkeithing, Fife. As a young woman she took on the responsibilities of a step mother, to two very young children. (Daniel and Marion) She was a reasonably young woman when she was widowed in 1889. [39] She emmigrated to Canada about 1909, to be with her son John Gibson Barclay, at Lloydminster, in the Province of Saskatchewan. She helped manage the Rising Sun Post Office, before and after her sons death, in 1915. She died in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, on the 10th of March 1929, and is buried beside her son at Lloydminister. Certif. #___ In 1987, the children of William D. Barclay arranged the placement of her gravestone, a black onyx rock, embellished with gold cut 'praying hands'. A fitting tribute to a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She had three sons and one daughter. At the time of her death, she had one son (Willie) in the United States and her daughter (Mary) in Scotland
Their children:
